Allergies
Allergies such as hayfever, eczema and asthma are extremely common and on the increase. An allergic reaction is caused by an over-exuberant immune response to a particular substance which is normally harmless such as pollen. The symptoms of allergies can restrict many people’s daily activities and can have very serious consequences if not addressed appropriately. If another member of your family has an allergy, you are much more likely to suffer from one too. Nevertheless, allergies can usually be managed by over-the-counter medicines very successfully and many disappear as you get older.
Some substances which can lead to an allergic reaction:
• Pollen
• House dust mites
• Food such as milk or nuts
• Pet hair
• Medication, eg antibiotics
• Latex
• Wasp and bee stings
Some of the most common allergic symptoms:
• Pain in the sinuses around the nose, eyes and forehead
• Sneezing
• Wheezing
• Rash
• Coughing
• Itchy eyes, skin and throat
• Breathlessness
• Runny nose
If you think you have an allergy and it persists, we offer allergy testing to identify what is causing the allergic reaction.
